To begin with, we would like you to briefly tell us about your organization

The Tulsa Dream Center is a faith based community center in the heart of North Tulsa. We exist to empower the community of North Tulsa to know God and experience transformation.

  1. What do you do exactly?

And what was the reason that encouraged you to start this organization?

The Tulsa Dream started in the year 2000, by Pastor Billy Joe Daugherty the founder of  Victory Christian Church. Pastor Billy Joe drove to 46th Street  and Martin Luther King in North Tulsa and prayed that God would give him land to start a community center that would transform the community of North Tulsa. 2 weeks later, two sisters Mary and Martha called Pastor Billy Joe and wanted to donate land to Victory. The land was on 46th Street and Martin Luther King – Pastor Billy Joe knew he was being called to start the Tulsa Dream Center.

I stepped in as the Executive Director in January 2017. It has been one of the most exciting ventures I have had the honor of playing a role in. God is truly doing the miraculous at the Tulsa Dream Center.

At the Tulsa Dream Center we have strategically designed free services and program to break people out of the cycle of poverty.

We believe the most threatening needs require the most attention. Our three major focal points are education, medical and hunger. We believe if we meet these three needs are met in North Tulsa we will see a community go from striving to thriving.

We have a medical clinic for the uninsured in North Tulsa, GED Programs, Literacy Is For Everyone Afterschool Program, Hot Meal Service, Biweekly Grocery Assistance, Legal Aid, Healthy Living Classes, and Recreational Sports Teams for children and youth.

  1. What motivates you?

Describe your mission passion

We often use this phrase at the Tulsa Dream Center.

One Person. One Family. One Community.

What motivates me is the power that lies in changing just one person’s life, because that has the power to change a whole family’s life, leading to transforming an entire community. We believe that if we can impact one life it can create a massive ripple effect to transform the whole community of North Tulsa.

  1. Tell us about your goals

Our goals are to:

-build a community garden that can then become a farmers market in North Tulsa

-have a facility that has job training and a trade school

-bring an educational afterschool program to every child in North Tulsa

  1. What was the hardest/toughest moment you had to deal with?

Obstacles you faced when dealing with bureaucracy, permits, funding, etc. Something you would like to point out to anyone who might be starting their own organization.

I transitioned into the position of Executive Director in January after the Tulsa Dream Center had an amazing director for 17 years. Every transition comes with trials and triumphs.  It is a journey I am eternally grateful for!

  1. What was the most fulfilling moment that happened to you?

Fulfilling moments have been constant in my time as the Executive Director at the Tulsa Dream Center. In the last 10 months since I began my new position, we have seen supernatural increase in finances, resources, partnerships and improvements within our building. The momentum we are seeing is nothing short of the miraculous.

  1. What separates you from the rest? Why you?

What separates the Tulsa Dream Center from the rest is we not only believe in meeting our community’s physical needs, but we desire to meet our community’s spiritual needs. Our desire is to partner with people and see whole life transformation.

We often tell our community members to “Dream No Small Dream”. We believe in the exponential potential in every individual that walks through our doors and our greatest desire is to partner with them and see their dreams become reality!

  1. Do you have any upcoming events in the forthcoming months?

November 20th – Thanksgiving Feast and Thanksgiving Grocery Giveaway

December 16th- Christmas Celebration Outreach- We will have a toy and coat giveaway.

  1. What is it that you love most about what you do?

I love meeting people where they are at, and encouraging them in all that God has created them to be!

  1. What is the biggest challenge you’re faced with today?

The biggest challenge I am faced with is getting our name and mission into all of Tulsa!
